One of the lessons I came across while reading Dan Goleman's emotional intelligence today, is that people who do something with the mindset of making money from it end up quiting when they don't see the money. But those who do it for the joy if it are the ones who end up successful. So, I agree with your assertion. Why do you write? Is it for the joy of it or the money? I guess one's answer will keep them going or quit in moment like this.
